The panel is not meant for just examining the demand of Telangana State but the issue of Samaikhyandhra too. But the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders and votaries of Telangana are hellbent on forming Telangana in the format of their choice, notwithstanding any amount of damage caused to other most backward areas like Rayalaseema and North Andhra.it's quite clear that neither the congress chief sonia gandhi, nor her cabal of shady advisors, had thought about the people of rayalaseema and north andhra on december 9th, 2009, when they announced that the process of formation of telangana state 'will be initiated'. it's also more clear that the political leaders of rayalaseema and north andhra had bothered even less about the people of those two regions.
The blind support by K Chandrasekhar Rao for Telangana reminds one of the proverbial evil intention of a cunning man over sharing a milch animal with his brother. The cunning man wanted the portion of the animal that gives milk and manure while offering the head portion that required continuous feeding to his innocent brother.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao is well aware that 50 percent of the State income comes from Hyderabad, 20 percent from the rest of Telangana and 30 per cent from Andhra-Rayalaseema. Since Hyderabad is the commonwealth of Telugus, the income is utilised to take care of the needs of all 22 districts.
Chandrasekhar Rao wants to grab the creamy part and dump Rayalaseema and North Andhra to their fate. The people of the two most backward regions are frightened at the developments.
Their per capita income, employment potential, industrialisation, irrigation facilities, health and road infrastrucutre indices are among the lowest. The Telangana debate should begin with the fate of two orphans.
Even Mr Chandrasekhar Rao and his troupe should find a solution to the orphan areas before staking a claim to Telangana.
even though the 'aikya vedika' was formed nearly half a decade ago, its leaders had mostly focussed on engaging in scoring points in televised 'which-region-is-more-backward' debates with the telangana separatists than in meaningful engagement with the people of the region to make them aware about the issue of the division of andhra pradesh and its implications for rayalaseema. they remained mostly a congress managed puppet outfit, whose sole purpose was to ensure that the trs didn't steal all the television time.
now, mr.venkatesh makes a poignant case for rayalaseema, and also north andhra. as he says, in many aspects, both regions are actually more backward than telangana. but what were you thinking mr.venkatesh, all through the last 5-6 years until december, 9, 2009, when you put so much more trust in delhi than in your own people?

Sadly, hate-mongers have been successful in dividing the people on regional lines. In times like these, everything from governments jobs to police recruitments are being viewed on regional lines. Singing the High command strategy is probably the best strategy as it might cool down emotions among poeple.
There are perhaps many understandable but not excusable reasons why the legislators of seemandhra region did not make serious attempts to refute t separatists deluge of hate, lies and deception on telugu people in public forums until delhi attempted to shit on our heads.
One of the prime reasons is perhaps as you pointed out in your blog was the tendency to outsource these murky things to delhi rather than engage your own people through discussion. Nevertheless when delhi revealed its colors they did put up an admirable fight. i wish they take up the task of touring in telangana to talk about samaikyandhra as they promised.
But right now kufr the focus should be firmly on the fascism of t separatists. The threat of violence on anyone who has a different opinion on telangana in telangana must be very firmly dealt with. Without freedom of fear of physical intimidation true democratic engagement is unlikely to happen. lets wish telugu society will respond maturely to this challenge.
The threat of violence on anyone who has a different opinion on telangana in telangana must be very firmly dealt with.
Few isolated events of violence do not designate the whole movement that is thriving on peaceful agitations and popular voice.
Yes violence should be discouraged but not by brutally suprressing peaceful agitations.
In telangana more than the few violent incidents against samaikhyandhra proponents violence against the peaceful agaitators is on the rise and is dominating.
The govt. is unleashing autocratic brutality on the telangana movement.
On a objective understanding, this is what the so called liberal minded free-speech proponents and democratic supporters should first dealt with.
Sravan,
What a joke? It is preposterous to say that opponents of separate T can express their views freely in Telangana. Perhaps non-muslims have better chance to walk into a Taliban area and say Ram or Jesus.
Ved,
It is not a joke.
Where are all the samaikhyandhra leaders today??
Right in Hyderabad
Kufr,
Hyderabad will be the bone of contention. if not for this city, the state would have bifurcated a decade back...
kc,
'Sadly, hate-mongers have been successful in dividing the people on regional lines.'
that's a popular perception among the middle classes.. something like a fad, only more addictive.
i was trying to point the pitfalls of thinking of delhi as an all-important ruler or arbiter. that's the kind of thinking which has brought us to this pass..
kiran,
'One of the prime reasons is perhaps as you pointed out in your blog was the tendency to outsource these murky things to delhi rather than engage your own people through discussion. Nevertheless when delhi revealed its colors they did put up an admirable fight.'
yes. but the problem is much deeper than that. whether the state stays united or gets divided, i hope the telugus realize they've to think hard about who shall control their lives.
@Sravan,
You have avoided the main point raised in Kufr's blog, namely Hyd gens about 50% of the State, Revenue from T is 20% and A&S put together could only generate 30%. Now Ts want Hyd to be part of Telangana, meaning they want to usurp 70% of the annual revenue generated in the State for themselves, leaving A & S with a pittance of 30% sources of revenue. If a such thing happens, it will be nothing but a cruel joke on the A-S people. The only solution is to divide Hyderabad city among T and A-S. It is natural that Telanganites have a more cultural and historical affinity with Old City. So let them have it, so that they feel at home there. Rest of the Hyd minus old city should go to A-S state. This is a highly justified solution from any angle of analysis.
The other solution can be that Hyderabad remains in hands of center with revenue shared equally by both the regions for 15 years, till A-S develops its own city
This will not be difficult considering the resources of Coastal A region and industrious people.
'but what were you thinking mr.venkatesh, all through the last 5-6 years until december, 9, 2009, when you put so much more trust in delhi than in your own people?
kufr,
I completely agree with you. Their silence for the last 5 years completely baffled me. They counted too much on the fact that these opportunists, time and again, raise the issue and walk away from the cause after cashing it. However for these latest batch of separatists all the known gimmicks were exhausted and for people to believe them, they need to go to the next level. Otherwise there is no future for them.
Not only our leaders ignored the threat, but also contributed to it - in 2004 by Congress and 2009 by TDP. They also ignored the fact that congress at center has much bigger game plan, and Andhra and Telangana are mere tools to achieve their goals.
Taking into account the bigger goal of crowning the prince by 2014, Telangana will not be formed unless there is some support in Andhra or Rayalaseema. The recent remarks by Botsa is to drive AR in this direction.
wasn't there a mini revolt when Delhi chose the YSR's successor against their wish? is it the wish of telugu's?
TG Venkatesh was instrumental all the way in fighting for Rayalaseema right from 2004.

sravan,
the 'democratic' nature of a struggle is not illustrated by the fact that you're allowing your so-called opponents, or political leaders from andhra-rayalaseema, to 'live' in hyderabad. it is proven when they're able to 'function' as politicians in hyderabad too. to hold public meetings, rallies and not just confine themselves to unobtrusive private meetings among themselves confined to private hotels and their own private homes. even if all the legislators and other political leaders from andhra-rayalaseema were the only people to attend (leaving aside all the andhra-rayalaseema population living in hyderabad and sympathizers among telanganis and others living in hyderabad) it'd make a public meeting of around few hundred people. has a single such meeting or rally be held in hyderabad until now?
a muslim friend was telling me the other day about how many times the social activist organization he belongs to had approached the police commissioner of hyderabad and even the state human rights commission to permit them to hold a public meeting or a rally in hyderabad..they were refused every time because such a meeting would vitiate the already vitiated environment in the city..and that's one organization..
and that's the environment the 'few isolated incidents of violence' that you talk about which have now climbed into hundreds of minor incidents and hate-filled speeches, have created in this city.
Hate filled speeches--- well... it is a subjective perception of ANdhra. And nothing to discuss on that.
A telangana friend working in NTR University told me that, while student JAC was initially very enthusiastic to hold a meeting in hyderabad and warangal, the political clan of andhra was not interested.
The reason... no body will turn up. The reason for it again is the sheer amount of people support for separate state in telangana.
It is a calculated decision on part of samaikhyandhra not to hold meetings in telangana. It is a deliberate choice.
And we all know what happened to the telangana advocates who were holding a opposition to the meeting of samaikhyandhra vadi CBN in hyderabad.
Then I got to believe that it is definitely going to cause tensions and cannot rule out a chance of beetings from political goondas of andhra for telangana vadis at a meeting for samaikhyandhra in hyderabad.
We all know the fate of the couple of MLA s from andhra who were in support of separate state.
